Maya Angelou

Maya, who spent her formative years in Stamps, Arkansas, addressed the nation at President Clinton's 1993 Inauguration with her poem, "On the Pulse of Morning," and she is the author of several award-winning collections of poetry. She is equally well known for her inspiring autobiographical novels. I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings brought her the distinction of being the first African to be the longest running author on The New York Times paperback nonfiction list. She is also an essayist, children's author, playwright, and screenwriter.
